2025 Anambra Guber Poll: CP Orutugu Orders Intelligence-Driven Operations to Curb Thuggery, Violence

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to intensify intelligence-driven operations across the state ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
CP Orutugu also directed coordinated security raids at identified flashpoints within their respective areas of jurisdictions.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the strategic move amis to nip in the bud any emerging threats of political thuggery, cult-related violence, and illegal possession of firearms, with the overall goal of ensuring a secure and peaceful electoral environment.
The Commissioner noted that credible intelligence reports indicate that certain individuals and groups, acting on behalf of political interests, may be mobilising youths for violent activities before and during the election period.
Orutugu assured that the Command would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt public peace, intimidate voters, or undermine lawful electoral processes.
He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and non-partisan, adding that the duty of the Command is to protect lives and property, safeguard the integrity of the electoral space, and enforce the law without fear, favour, or political influence.
