Kano Police Arrest 51 Suspects for Thuggery, Recover Weapons, Illicit Drugs 

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 51 suspects for thuggery in different parts of the state, including Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas.

The Command highlighted the specific areas of arrest, including Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters, noting that the apprehensions were made between June 13 and 15, 2025.

According to a notice issued by the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, on Monday, the suspects were arrested during a clearance operation in criminal hideouts across the state.

The arrested suspects are Ayuba Zakariyya (a.k.a Shamakin), 24, from Sheka Bayan Makaranta; Aliyu Usaini (a.k.a. Aliko), 23, from Sheka Sabuwar Abuja; Aminu Ibrahim, 20, from Hausawa; Mustapha Muhammad, 20, from Tukuntawa Quarters and Abdulsalam Abubakar, 19, from Hausawa.

Others include Abdulkarim Adamu, 24; Sagiru Sunusi, 25; Abubakar Bello, 25, Ismail Bello, 24 (all from Bachirawa Quarters); Imrana Inusa,15, from Gobirawa Quarters; Abubakar Muhammad, 19, from Tudun Fulani Quarters and Yusuf Rabiu, 23, from Tudun Rubudi Quarters.

Also arrested were Rayyanu Bilyaminu, 23, from Dorawar dillalai Quarters; Idris Garba (a.k.a Halifa Kwado), 20; Nura Umar (a.ka. Semigo), 20 (both from Zango Quarters); Usama Maharazu (a.k.a. Ladan), 20, from Yakasai Quarters; Sani Ibrahim (a.k.a. Kwage), 22, from Soron-Dinki Quarters; Aliyu Yasir (a.k.a. Maibobo), 20, from Kofar-Kwaru, and Muhammad Abdulhamid (a.k.a. Alhazai), 20, from Kankarofi.

Additional suspects include Abubakar Jibrin (a.k.a. Maitakalmi), 20, from Dirimin-Iya Quarters; Jibrin Salisu, 20, from Zango Quarters; Mubarak Ahmad (a.k.a. Dankwallo), 23, from Gwale Quarters; Ibrahim Lawal Alias Danjummai, 23, from Zango Quarter; Musbahu Ali (a.k.a. Lafa), 23, from Dorayi City; Mukhtar Ibrahim (a.k.a Mulmulle), 20, from Gwale; Abdullahi Salisu (a.k.a. Zigir), 21, from Madabo Quarters, and Abbas Hamisu (a.k.a. Paskee), 21, from Mazan-Kwarai.

Other suspects are Shu’aibu Sani, 30, from Tudun-Maliki Sheka Quarters; Aminu Abdullahi (a.k.a. Zizu), 24, from Yar’kasuwa Sheka; Mustapha Ibrahim, 24, from Unguwa-Uku Quarters; Abubakar Adam (a.k.a. Mallam Habu), 35, from Sheka Quarters; Yahaya Kamal (a.k.a. Halifa), 21, from Sheka Quarters; Abdussamad Abdullahi, 22, from Kurna Quarters; Ahmed Ibrahim, 20, from Kurna Quarters, and Abubakar Sani, 27, from Kurna Quarters.

They also include Yakubu Sahabi, 23, from Kurna Quarters; Auwalu Ussaini, 22, from Kurna Quarters; Sabi’u Sani, 21, from Sheka Quarters; Yusuf Umar (a.k.a. Chasa) from Ja’en Quarters; Ibrahim Musa (a.k.a. Dogo), 23, from Yakasai Quarters; Rabi’u Mustapha, 21, from Rijiyar Zaki Quarters; Yusuf Muhammed, 24, from Mazauna Quarters; Abba Muhammed, 22, from Mazauna Quarters; and Salim Sani, 27, from Hausawa Quarters.

Other names are Sulaiman Gambo, 27, from Hausawa Quarters; Halifa Ahmad, 18, from Shrarada Rinji Quarters; Musa Ahmad, 18, from Shrarada Rinji Quarters; Rufai Saidu Alias Nagwale, 39, from Jaen Makera Quarters; Aminu Ibrahim, 23, from Jaen Makera; Abubakar Muhammad, 30, from Bachirawa Quarters, and Alkasim Mamud, 20, from Bachirawa Quarters.

“The three-day operation led to the arrest of fifty-one (51) suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The Command is fully determined to decisively tackle thuggery and its associated crimes,” the statement noted.

Reacting to the successful interventions, the Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, warned against brandishing weapons under the guise of traditional performances, including “Gangi”.

CP Bakori also warned against the display of dangerous weapons on social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), and Instagram, which he said encourages and recruits teenagers to engage in thuggery-related crimes.

The Command urged parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards, and to report any suspicious behaviour, cautioning that anyone caught committing such acts will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

It also warned that parents who conspire with their children or wards to hide dangerous weapons in their homes, and blacksmiths who fabricate such weapons, will be investigated.
