The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it generated ₦1.3 trillion as revenue in the first half of 2025.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, disclosed this during a visit with his delegation to the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) in Apapa on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
“The Nigeria Customs Service, with critical stakeholders like you, have collective responsibility to uphold our tenets of compliance, due diligence and application of global best practices in everything we do,” Comptroller Olomu said.
He urged NAGAFF to continue its support for the NCS by consistently making sincere declarations and emphasised the importance of adhering to import and export guidelines, ensuring that duties are paid as required by law.
The Comptroller acknowledged NAGAFF’s history of professionalism, reliability, and commitment, while commending its founder, Dr. Boniface Anebiohiam, for establishing a visionary leadership 25 years ago.
He also recalled the Apapa Command‘s outstanding achievements in 2024, including winning awards for Best Command, Best in Revenue and Trade Facilitation.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the support we received from NAGAFF. I wish to say that we achieve a total collection of ₦1.37 trillion as revenue in the first half of 2025. Let me also thank you very sincerely for your support to CGC’s vision agenda.”
Comptroller Olomu commended Dr. Aniebonam and the National President, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, for their tremendous efforts in training professional freight forwarders through the NAGAFF Academy.
Speaking further, he stressed the significance of healthy living and urged freight forwarders to prioritise their health and adopt a work-life balance.
“Don’t be too one-sided about life, focusing only on work and the pursuit of money at the expense of your health. Let’s endeavour to do medical check-ups routinely to guard against high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes, stroke and other avoidable or manageable illnesses.
“At a work-free time, we can also incorporate exercises and structured nutrition to manage our health and well-being. Incase you don’t know, we have a clinic onsite at the Command, it is open to officers as well as all stakeholders,” Olomu stated.
He encouraged stakeholders to make use of the medical facility, revealing that it was recently stocked by the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and is operated by qualified medical practitioners at very affordable rates.
“The warm reception you accorded me when I resumed, which you have also sustained up to this minute, is a motivation and encouragement I will never take for granted. I feel at home in your midst and request that the great strides we achieved in the first half of 2025 be redoubled in the second half of the year,” he added.
In his remarks, Dr. Aniebonam applauded Comptroller Olomu for his outstanding achievements at the Apapa Command and stressed the importance of compliance in cargo clearance and efficient port operations.
He advised the freight forwarders to stay informed about Customs laws, emphasising that the government, like others across the world, takes revenue generation seriously.
“You have great minds in your Command. That is what God has given you. Even up to the management level, you can boast of capable people. I believe that is the reason for these remarkable improvements,” Aniebonam said.
He also appealed to Comptroller Olomu to help identify Customs officers who can assist in training members at the NAGAFF Academy and encouraged freight forwarders to resolve internal issues amicably and avoid unnecessary escalation.
