U.S. Imposes Visa Restrictions Over Alleged Christian Persecution in Nigeria

The United States has announced visa restrictions targeting individuals involved in the alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria and other countries across the world.

The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who disclosed this on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, described the move as a decisive step to confront escalating violence against Christians and other faith groups worldwide.

“The United States is taking decisive action in response to the atrocities and violence against Christians in Nigeria and around the world. The @StateDept will restrict U.S. visas for those who knowingly direct, authorize, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom,” Rubio wrote.

He added: “This visa policy applies to Nigeria and other governments or individuals that persecute people for their religious beliefs.”

President Donald Trump recently alleged that Christianity faces an existential threat in Nigeria, claiming that thousands of Christians are being killed.

Consequently, he declared Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern”, sparking widespread reactions across the country, especially on social media and among political figures.
