The Lagos State Ministry of Health has advised the residents of the state to be health conscious ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the State’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi on Saturday.
According to the statement, Prof. Abayomi advised the residents to prioritize their health and well-being while enjoying the last game of the tournament, other football matches or any other intense activities.
He highlighted vital health tips for the residents and the rest of the citizens.
“Understand your physical limitations and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any underlying health conditions before engaging in activities that could potentially exacerbate them.
“Crowded poorly ventilated hot environments should be avoided with attention to good hydration. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and ensure you drink plenty of water and eat nutritious foods to keep your body fueled and hydrated, especially during prolonged periods of sitting and watching the game,” he stated.
He stressed the need to stand up, stretch, and move around periodically to prevent stiffness and promote circulation, explaining that it helps to maintain alertness and prevent fatigue.
The Commissioner added: “Sit in a comfortable chair with proper back support and avoid slouching to reduce strain on your muscles and spine.
“Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or mindfulness to manage stress and emotions during intense moments in the game.”
Mr. Abayomi further admonished the residents to familiarize themselves with the location of medical facilities and emergency exits at the venue – and know how to access help quickly if needed.
He encouraged them to contact the Lagos Emergency Medical Team, LASAMBUS, at 767 or 112 toll-free line in case of a medical emergency.
He also appealed to viewing centers owners to provide adequate medical facilities and trained personnel in order to respond swiftly when emergency arises.
The final of AFCON will go down between Nigeria and host nation, Cote d’Ivoire at Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan on Sunday (today) by 9pm.
