The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced the passing of its member, David Gbemisola Adekunle.
The association expressed sadness at the devastating incident which occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
An obituary of his passing by the family reads: “With total submission to the will of Almighty God, the family of Adekunle hereby announces the passing of our beloved son, brother, husband, father, and uncle, late David Gbemisola Adekunle aka Honourable, who passed onto glory on Sunday, January 4, 2026.”
It stated that the Service of Songs would hold on Monday, January 12, 2026, by 4:00 pm at No. 5, Lawal Close, Abule Taylor, U-Turn Bustop, Abule Egba, Lagos, while the funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 10:00am at Lantoro Cemetery, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Until his death, Adekunle was a staff of Voice of Nigeria (VON) as well as a member of AMJON. He is survived by his wife and children.
Speaking on the unfortunate development, President of AMJON, Vera Osokpo, described Adekunle’s passing as shocking and devastating.
Osokpo called on members of the Association as well as industry stakeholders to rally and support the family at this critical period of family grief.
