The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said that the upcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council elections represent the first step towards removing the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power.
ThelensNG reports that the FCT Council elections will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Atiku joined other party leaders on Wednesday in Gwarinpa to campaign for Moses Paul, the Chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), where he highlighted the importance of the election.
“This election is very important. It will say a lot about how ready the managers of our elections are to deliver free, fair and credible polls. It will also say a lot about how ready people are to chase the APC out,” he remarked.
The former Vice President urged voters to come out in large numbers to vote for ADC candidates across all FCT Councils in the elections, noting that the party has fielded candidates with the competence, capacity, and character to offer quality leadership across local councils in Abuja.
Atiku also encouraged voters to defy all forms of intimidation and make the right choice, asserting that the APC-led Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu has failed Nigerians on many fronts.
“It has failed to fix the economy. It has failed to fix our education. It has failed to keep our country safe. It has pushed the citizens of a rich nation into deeper poverty. It has allowed criminal elements to hold citizens to ransom,” he stated.
He added: “APC must be voted out in the coming elections, and we should start with the FCT elections.”
