Nigeria’s electricity grid has collapsed, plunging citizens in some parts of the country into darkness.
The national grid handle on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed the disruption on Wednesday.
“There was a “GRID DISTURBANCE” before noon today. Parts of the country experienced outage. Further information shortly,” it stated
Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) also affirmed the grid collapse, stating that it occurred some minutes before noon.
The company wrote: “Please, be informed that we experienced a system outage today 12th February, 2025 at 11:34hrs affecting all our feeders.
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly, bear with us.”
This is the first time the national grid has collapsed in 2025, however, it suffered 12 setbacks in the year 2024.
