Blockage of Inner Streets for Parties, Social Events Will No Longer Be Tolerated – Lagos Task Force
The Lagos State Task Force has kicked against blockage of inner streets for parties and other social gatherings.
According to a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Affairs of Lagos State Task Force, Mr. Gbadeyan Abdulraheem on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Agency, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Shola Jejeloye condemned the act – and described it as selfish and inconsiderate on the part of organizers.
CSP Jejeloye revealed that the Agency was once forced to halt a birthday celebration in Yaba area of the state when they discovered that the celebrants and guests had occupied 95% of the road, thereby slowing down vehicular movement and grossly inconveniencing Lagosians going about their business.
He disclosed that such activities are mostly common in Lagos Island, Oworonshoki and Agege respectively – and noted that the radar of the Lagos State Taskforce would be set up to put such actions in check forthwith.
“It is highly unacceptable that one would selfishly and ignorantly cordone off an entire street to throw parties and social events and thereby causing noise pollution and traffic gridlock in the area. It is the height of irresponsibility and henceforth anyone caught carrying out such a foolish act will be arrested and charged to the mobile court immediately,” he stated.
The Chairman admonished those fond of blocking the streets and roads for parties to desist from the act or face the wrath of the law.
He maintained that there are locations across the state that are either privately owned or run by the government which are suitable enough for carrying out social events.
CSP Jejeloye further stated that event can be held in the approved areas if the organizer has gotten permission from the appropriate authorities – and a copy of the approval submitted at the Headquarters of the Agency before carrying out the planned social event.
He urged the members of the public to report any activity of blockage of inner streets or roads for social gathering to the nearest police station or to the Lagos State Taskforce for necessary action, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure that sanity is maintained in the state.
