Chelsea have parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino after a season as the manager of the club.
The west London side on Tuesday night announced that both parties have mutually agreed to part ways.
Pochettino, 52, was announced as the manager of the Blues on May 29, 2023 – and officially joined the team on July 1, 2023 after signing a two-year deal.
However, the Argentine will no longer remain as the head coach of the team following his sixth (6th) place finish with 63 points in the recently concluded 2023/2024 Premier League season.
Pochettino failed to lay his hands on the domestic titles after losing to Liverpool by a lone goal through Virgil van Dijk’s header in the final of the Carabao Cup. He equally lost out by same scoreline to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the semi-final of the FA Cup with the only goal coming off Bernardo Silva.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career,” Sporting Directors of Chelsea, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley was quoted as saying by the club’s website.
On his part, Pochettino was quoted as saying: “‘Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
The club also announced that the quartet of Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino left the club with the former Paris Saint- Germain manager.
