Not less than 15 buildings, including houses and shops have been demolished in Dopemu area of Lagos State, resulting in business closures and leaving many residents homeless.
The demolition exercise also affected streets within Dopemu, including Ogunjebe and Ifekoya Streets.
Thelensng gathered that the demolitions, which occurred on Thursday, December 5 were carried out in compliance with a ruling delivered by a Lagos State High Court on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
The court case, which has been ongoing for decades, eventually led to the demolition of the structures.
“The general public is hereby notified that pursuant to the High Court of Lagos State judgement delivered on Wednesday the 3rd Day of February, 2016 and the ruling delivered on Thursday the 13th Day of June, 2024 in Suit No: ID/675M/2002 between: Mr Fatai Yusuf and one another (for themselves and on behalf of Hassan Yusuf Family) and Wahab Tijani Ojule and twenty-four (24) others by his lordships Hon. Justice G. A. Safari and Hon. Justice M. A. Savage, respectively.
“The Hassan Yusuf Family was granted vacant possession of the landed properties situated at Dopemu-Magbon Road, Olarewaju Street,.Ogunjebe Street, Ifekoya Street, Papa Ashafa, Agege, Lagos State and/or Moike Sasa Jaforojo road, which is covered by SURVEY PLAN NOS: SEW/L/164A/2 and KAQ/LA/01/2001/CS made and dated respectively by M. A. SEWEJE (Licensed Surveyor) and Kunle Agbolade (registered surveyor) on the 20th day of February, 1979 and on 15th day of January, 2001, respectively,” the notice issued regarding the destruction noted.
Amidst the demolished buildings, thelensng can confirm that several other structures have been marked for demolition and vacation.
