The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reiterated the Nigeria Police (NPF’s) commitment to inter-agency and international cooperation in combatting transnational crime.
IGP Egbetokun made the commitment when he hosted the United Kingdom’s Minister of the Home Office, Lord David George Hanson at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja on Tuesday.
This is according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Speaking during their engagement, Lord Hanson emphasised the significant threat posed by transnational crime, particularly fraud, acknowledging it as a major area of concern for both the UK and Nigeria.
He expressed delight in the existing collaborative efforts between the UK Government and the NPF in tackling cybercriminals and voiced his anticipation for strengthened cooperation in the future.
The Minister further stated that the UK Government is committed to supporting the security agency in its efforts to combat crime, especially cybercrime, and looks forward to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will further solidify the partnership and provide a framework for enhanced collaboration.
In his response, the IGP acknowledged Lord Hanson’s remarks and stressed the importance of the visit.
He noted that it underscores the strong partnership between the Nigerian and the UK governments and the shared commitment to tackling transnational crime.
The police boss expressed gratitude for the support and partnership being extended to law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, particularly the Nigeria Police Force.
Egbetokun also expressed hope to establish a fellowship exchange program with the National Crime Agency (NCA) to foster a deeper, long-term relationship and strengthen collaboration.
He emphasised the continuous dedication of the NPF towards strengthening partnerships and collaborations with relevant organisations to tackle the menace of crime, thereby bringing it to its bare minimum.
