
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Friday, hosted the Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS), Sylvester Nwakuche Ndidi, and other senior officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting centred around enhancing cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the NCS, with a focus on efficient crime prevention and strengthening the entire Nigerian Criminal Justice System.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer who made this known in a statement noted that Ag. Ndidi also elaborated on the NCS’s ongoing rehabilitation and reformation processes, which aims to transform correctional facilities into centres of rehabilitation rather than mere confinement.
He pointed out the NCS’s initiative to develop an updated criminal database to ensure a comprehensive record of offenders and their respective offenses, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the correctional system.
On his part, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the shared vision of both agencies to ensure the overall effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System, and pledged the commitment of the police to working closely with the NCS towards achieving shared goals.
Similarly, the police boss received a courtesy visit from senior officers of the ASP Course 22/2005 who clocked 20 years in service, at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
He congratulated the officers on their journey so far and encouraged them to always show commitment to upholding the rule of law, integrity, accountability, transparency and justice, which forms the core values of policing.
The security agency reassured its obligation towards justice and expressed optimism that high values, professionalism and collaborative efforts with the NCS and other relevant agencies will result to meaningful reforms and improved outcomes for the criminal justice system in Nigeria, and the country as a whole.
