IGP Orders Restructuring of Kebbi CID to Enhance Effectiveness, Professionalism

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate sanitisation and restructuring of the Kebbi State Command Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in order to enhance the effectiveness and professionalism of police officers attached to the section in the state.

IGP Egbetokun described the move as a vision to establish specialised investigative units within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday, November 28, 2024, the IGP equally directed that all officers currently occupying positions within the Kebbi State CID be reassigned to other commands, formations, and units, including training schools.

“This decision is part of a broader initiative to inject expertise into the Department, ensuring the most capable hands are in place to emplace modern policing ideals through standardised investigations and intelligence gathering in line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, the Police Act, 2020, and other relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The IGP has also expounded on the need to carry out consistent training of officers involved in investigations, as a follow up to the workshop held with Heads of all Police Investigative Units at Abuja on the 11th of November, 2024,” the statement noted.

ACP Adejobi explained that the initiative aligns with the IGP’s commitment to specialising and standardising all investigative units within the police, thereby ensuring commitment to the rule of law.

“By implementing these changes, the Force intends to improve the quality of investigations, enhance public trust, and ensure that justice is served efficiently and effectively. The reorganisation of other investigative units within the Force will be carried out following the receipt of reports from the technical committees on the reforms,” he stressed.

The spokesperson expressed the commitment of the security agency to transparency and accountability, stressing that it is dedicated to its mission of safeguarding the lives and properties of all citizens.

“This restructuring will significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance the security of our communities,” the statement added.
