Afrobeat artiste David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he shares a heritage with the Igbo ethnic group.
Davido disclosed this on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday while responding to a netizen with the handle @Yakbel, who advised him to stop associating himself with the Igbos, noting that they would betray him regardless of his good intentions.
He wrote: “Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest, Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them, you can never satisfy Ibos ooo, IBOs are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”
In his response, Davido stated: “lol I AM IGBO by blood.”
The artiste’s reaction has sparked controversy on social media amid tribal sentiments in the country.
Davido had on Monday hosted veteran Nigerian highlife musician, Sir Bright Chimezie in Lagos, acknowledging that he inspired his verse on the song titled “With You”.
