The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed an illegal cosmetic production facility known as Shine Shine skincare in Lagos.
ThelensNG gathered that the Investigation and Enforcement unit of the agency stormed the facility on Thursday, August 28, 2025, located in the Agege area of the state.
Operatives discovered various ranges of bleaching cosmetic products formulated under poor manufacturing practices with deception that they are “Organic products” and are safe for use.
According to NAFDAC, the outfit had in its production different names of unregistered products such as; Peeling white scrub, Glass scrub wash, Anti-aging Radiant Glow, Customised whitening Black soap, 10X customised Native Soap, 5D Instant whitening soap, Yellow Tone whitening Body Cream, Exfoliation Soap, Customised Body cream and many others.
It further explained that that most of these deceptively formulated skincare products contain banned or unsafe levels of toxic ingredients; and mixture of corticosteroid-based bleaching agents that can cause skin Atrophy (thinning), resulting in easily bruised skin with visible veins and delayed healing in the event of injury or surgery amongst other public health issues.
While investigation is ongoing, the agency appealed to the Nigerian populace to be vigilant when patronising cosmetic products and all NAFDAC-regulated products.
It also advised that members of the public should not hesitate to report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office across the Federation.
