NDLEA Arrests Woman “Going to India for Fibroid Surgery” with Cocaine at Lagos Airport
...Intercepts Australia, Bahrain-bound Cocaine, Loud Consignment
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 43-year-old female make-up artist, identified as Adekoya Adebukonla Mary for being in possession of 2.20 kilograms of cocaine.
The suspect, who claimed to be travelling to India for a fibroid surgery was nabbed by operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos.
According to a statement made available to Thelensng by the Director of Media and Advocacy of the anti-narcotic agency, Femi Babafemi, she was arrested on Monday, June 16, 2025 based on credible intelligence.
Babafemi disclosed that the prohibited substance was discovered factory fitted in the walls of her bag.
He explained that under surveillance, Adekoya was allowed to check in her luggage and arrested at the point of boarding her Qatar Airways flight to India via Doha.
“When her luggage was searched, two large parcels of cocaine weighing 2.20kg were found concealed in the walls of the suitcase she was carrying.
“In her statement, she claimed she embarked on the trip for financial benefits but under the pretext of going to India for surgery to remove fibroid from her stomach”, Babafemi added.
The NDLEA said further investigation revealed the suspect was recruited and funded by a drug baron it identified as Akeem Ayinde Adekanbi who is currently at large.
The agency provided additional information that Adekanbi owns Rockford Hotel located in the Sango area of Ogun State, while he lived at Igbe Laara in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State before his disappearance.
In the same vein, NDLEA operatives of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigation (DOGI) on Wednesday, June 18, uncovered 850 grams of cocaine concealed in cloth hangers heading to Australia at a courier company in Lagos.
Also, at another courier firm on Thursday, June 19, the team intercepted a shipment of sewn female dresses containing 1.3kg Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, going to Bahrain.
