The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has disclosed that new passport printers have been delivered and installed in passport offices in New York and Atlanta consulates of the United States of America (USA).
Recall that Mr. Tunji-Ojo acknowledged the receipt of a petition bothering on appeal for passport printers in both cities from some Nigerians in diaspora.
Consequently, the Minister about a month ago directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to deploy new printers to both passport offices.
However, Babatunde Alao, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Interior Minister in a statement announced that the machines were delivered and installed on Tuesday.
“Following the directives of the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in January 2025 to deliver new passport printers to consulates in New York and Atlanta, United States of America; the machines have now been delivered and installed yesterday, February 18, 2025,” the statement noted.
Tunji-Ojo said that the installation of the new printers provides immediate relief, and is part of the Ministry’s broader effort to streamline passport services in ensuring a more seamless application process.
He mentioned that the Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery, stressing that “the installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad.”
The Minister explained that the ongoing reforms, including the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre, and the expansion of contactless solutions to cover more regions will further enhance service efficiency.
“In addition, the development reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians,” he remarked.
He assured that with these new printers, Nigerians in Atlanta and New York can expect a faster and more efficient passport application process.
