Nigeria and Egypt have reinforced their partnership with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance air connectivity in the aviation sectors of both countries.
The MoU was signed when Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, hosted Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty and his delegation in Abuja, on Monday.
The agreement which was initiated during the International Civil Aviation Negotiations (ICAN) in 2024, represents a strategic milestone in bilateral cooperation, including technical exchange, route expansion, and investment in aviation infrastructure.
It aligns with the shared vision of promoting a more connected, integrated, and resilient African airspace.
The agreement also seeks to establish a compliant Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), with updated terms, including Multiple airline designations, Designated Entry points – Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, and others, and Flight frequencies – 7 times weekly to Lagos and 5 times weekly to Kano.
Others are Designation of intermediate and beyond points, Full 5th Freedom Traffic Rights, and New code-share arrangements aligned with the AFCAC BASA template.
This marks a significant step towards boosting air connectivity, trade, and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
