NSCDC Partners ABS to Enhance Security Awareness in Anambra

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has partnered with the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) to improve the dissemination of its operational activities and successes to members of the public.

Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant announced the partnership on Thursday, March 20, when he hosted the Managing Director of ABS, Mr. Chris Molokwu on a familiarisation visit at the Command’s headquarters in Awka.

This is according to a statement issued by Superintendent of Corps, SC Okadigbo Edwin, the Head, Media and Tactical Operations of the Command.

In his remarks, Commandant Olatunde stressed the crucial role of the media in crime fighting, stating that the partnership is essential.

The collaboration, he said, will help to leverage the wide coverage of media establishments, particularly radio and television to disseminate information and intensify efforts against crimes and criminality.

“We are ready to grab every opportunity to ensure that our activities and our operational successes are properly disseminated, because no matter our achievements, if we don’t talk about it the way it should, then we have not done justice to members of the public,” the Commandant said.

He explained that the Command under his leadership has taken a proactive approach in combatting crimes and criminality, specifically targeting sharp practices in the petroleum sector, the mining activities and private security operations.

The Anambra NSCDC boss also noted that the Command has always been prioritising the safety of critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure through robust security strategies.

On his part, Mr. Molokwu, who led other top officials of the organisation disclosed that the visit was to fraternise with Commandant Olatunde, thereby strengthening the existing relationship and explore other areas of interest between the two organisations.

The MD commended Olatunde on the successes recorded by the NSCDC in Anambra under his leadership, and urged him not to relent.

He expressed confidence that NSCDC, through the partnership, can harness the power of media to provide accurate security information, debunk harmful rumours and build trust within members of the public while discharging its statutory responsibilities.
