Ogun I Customs Makes ₦275m Revenue, ₦1.2bn Seizures in 2024
..Intercepts Contraband Worth ₦77m in January
The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it generated ₦275,835,406 as revenue and intercepted items worth ₦1,267,504,035 in 2024.
The Controller of the Command, Comptroller MS Shuaibu disclosed this during a press conference on the command’s 2024 scorecard and handing over of seized cannabis sativa to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Idi-Iroko Customs House on Tuesday.
Comptroller Shuaibu stated that the Command has consolidated on the gains of 2024 in recording significant seizures thus far in 2025, including the interception of 2,002 bags of smuggled rice weighing 50kg each, 6,180 pieces of cutlasses, 6375 litres of PMS, among others.
The intercepted items during this period bring the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) to ₦77,476,185.
“These seizures reflect our relentless efforts to curtail smuggling activities and enforce compliance with customs regulations. These achievements underscore our unwavering commitment to the Nigeria Customs Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, anti-smuggling, and trade facilitation.
“The revenue was actualized through the collection from baggage assessment, proceeds from auction sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and vehicles,” he said.
The Comptroller said that the seizures in 2024 was achieved through intelligence-driven operations and with the dedication of officers. They include: Foreign parboiled rice, 50kg each – 16,712 bags, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) – 139,881 litres, and live ammunition – 940 Rounds.
Others are cannabis Sativa – 71 sacks and 3,253 parcels, used clothing – 586 bales, vehicles used for conveyance – 86 units, foreign used vehicles – 18 units and used pneumatic tyres – 2,150 pieces.
Donkey skin – 760 pieces, frozen poultry products – 3,766 cartons and imported flour – 85 bags, make up the intercepted items in the command in year 2024.
“These seizures reflect our relentless efforts to curtail smuggling activities and enforce compliance with customs regulations,” he remarked.
The Ogun I Area Customs boss also handed over intercepted parcels of cannabis sativa to the Commander of the NDLEA, Idi-Iroko Special Command as part of inter-agency collaboration.
The items include coconut size – 1,019 parcels, book size – 25 parcels and bread sized – 140 Parcels.
He noted that the handing over is in line with the command’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with other security agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure a safer society.
Comptroller Shuaibu expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his continuous support.
He also commended the officers and men of the Ogun I Area Command for their resilience, professionalism, and dedication to duty, emphasising that their hard work and commitment have been instrumental in achieving these milestones.
The Comptroller further thanked the stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the media for their continued support and collaboration.
He urged the general public to join hands with the NCS by providing timely and credible information to help the Service combat smuggling and other economic crimes.
“Together, we can build a prosperous nation where compliance is the norm, and criminality has no place. As we continue in 2025, we remain resolute in delivering on our mandate to protect the economy, ensure security, and contribute to national prosperity.
“Let me assure you that the Ogun I Area Command will not relent in its efforts to combat smuggling, facilitate legitimate trade, and generate revenue for national development,” he added.
