Ogun: Zone 2 Police Arrest 4 Suspected Kidnappers, Armed Robbers, Recover Arms, Ammunition, Motorcycles

The Zone 2 Police Command has arrested 4 suspected kidnappers and cultists (Aiye), who specialise in robbing motorcycle riders and hijacking cement trucks along Onigbedu in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The arrested suspects are Damilare Babatunde (a.k.a. Drey), 30; Fatai Ishola, 25; Segun Hammed (a.k.a. Opa), 28; and Abiodun Olanrewaju, 45.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Ayuba Umma on Sunday, the apprehension followed intelligence received by AIG Adegoke Fayoade about a syndicate of suspected armed robbers operating in Ewekoro.
“Sequel upon that, a team of Detectives from the Zonal Dragon Squad 2 were detailed to investigate and bring the suspects to book,” the statement noted.
CSP Umma revealed that the trio of Babatunde, Ishola, and Hammed were nabbed at Sabo Hausa Market Eleweran, Abeokuta, while planning a robbery operation on May 8, 2025.
He disclosed that the arrest of the three suspects led to the apprehension of Olanrewaju in his hideout at Onigbedu, noting that the suspects confessed to taking part in the hijacking of cement-laden trucks along the Onigbedu Area of Ewekoro in Ogun.
“In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to kidnapping two Chinese nationale on 11th of August, 2024 (Liang Ding Jia ‘m’ and Chen Wen Guang ‘m’) and received a total sum of Thirty Million Naira (N30,000,000.00k) as ransom for their release.
“One of the suspects Segun Hammed ‘m’ known as “OPA” in the underworld confessed to taking part in a robbery operation at Obada Oko on 27th January 2025 where he forcefully had unlawful canal knowledge of a 62-year-old woman right in the presence of her children. The victims identified him and narrated their ordeal in the hands of this gang.
“During an interview with the 62-year-old woman, she stated that the suspect Segun Hammed wanted to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her daughter but she pleaded with him then he turned to her and forcefully had his way with her in the presence of her two children,” the spokesperson added.
He highlighted items recovered from the suspects, including one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, two unregistered Bajaj motorcycles, and one Berreta pistol with 13 live ammunition.
“Meanwhile, Three Hundred Thousand Naira N300,000.00k cash, one iPhone 7+, one small Tecno Phone and Opay Digital Service & UBA ATM cards made away with in the robbery operation are said to be in possession of a suspect at large,” Umma stated.
He mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts intensified to arrest the other suspects at large and recover all exhibits.
He further said that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
