Police Arrest Organiser, Four Others Over Alleged Sexual Assaults at Ozoro Festival

The Delta State Police Command has arrested the chief organiser, Omorede Sunday, and four other suspects over alleged sexual assaults of women at a festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
This follows videos circulating on social media from Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, which capture the sexual assault and molestation of young women during the local event.
In a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command condemned the acts, describing sexual violence as criminal, inhumane, and a grave violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, upon receipt of the disturbing videos, ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. The chief organiser, one chief Omorede Sunday and four other suspects have been arrested,” the statement said.
CP Adesola ordered that the case be immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, disclosing that tactical and investigative assets have been deployed with a clear mandate to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all individuals found culpable.
He urged members of the public, particularly victims and witnesses, to come forward with any information that will aid ongoing investigations, assuring that all information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
The Commissioner also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and maintaining public order.
The Command reaffirmed that those involved in these reprehensible acts will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
