President Tinubu Condemns Plateau, Kaduna Attacks, Vows Perpetrators Will Not Go Unpunished

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attack by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, which led to the deaths of several residents and injuries to many others.

President Tinubu also condemned the attack in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the attacks — including the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna as an affront to all that Nigeria stands for.

He assured Nigerians that the perpetrators of these barbaric acts will not go unpunished, “Anyone who sneaks under the cover of the night and kills defenceless citizens, as was done in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward. By attacking soft targets in Jos, the objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting,” the President said.

President Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify all efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and to act against the spread of misinformation that could inflame tensions and endanger lives.

He also cautioned against labelling the attacks as religiously motivated, stressing that security agencies are actively addressing the situation.

Tinubu emphasised that public cooperation is vital for maintaining peace and protecting lives and property, urging communities to comply with evacuation, relocation, and related security guidance.

While commending the safe return of two Kaduna victims, he called on security agencies to be proactive in preventing attacks by acting on early-warning intelligence. “All remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately,” the President added.

He praised the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, for his efforts in containing the situation in Jos, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for supporting the rescue and containment operations.

President Tinubu further assured the residents and governments of both states of his support, expressed condolences to the families of those killed, and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

He equally disclosed that his administration is acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable security agencies to track and neutralise criminals in real time, wherever they may be.
