President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, commending his determination and dedication to duty.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Oyedele was sworn in during a brief ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking after the ceremony, President Tinubu affirmed that the appointment was a vote of confidence in Oyedele, praising him for his professionalism in coordinating the work of the Tax Reforms Committee.
He noted that Oyedele’s commitment and deep knowledge of tax policy played a critical role in shaping the reforms designed to simplify the tax system, expand the revenue base, and create a more business-friendly environment in Nigeria.
“We are very proud of your knowledge, your simplicity, ambition, and excellence. I congratulate your wife for standing up to our challenge of time management and long hours of absence.
“This is additional responsibility, and I hope you will encourage and support him,” the President told Oyedele’s wife.
He also acknowledged Oyedele’s zeal, patience, and determination to serve his fatherland with courage. “Thank you for accepting to serve your country, especially for reforming the entire tax policy of this country that was obsolete and fundamentally against every progressive thinking.
“You are a very dedicated and highly determined individual. It didn’t take much for me to decide where you fit and where you need to be to further help with the economy.”
President Tinubu added that the position comes with significant responsibility as the government works to strengthen fiscal policy and maintain economic stability.
On his part, Oyedele took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the development, expressing gratitude to the President for the trust and confidence placed in him, and to the Senate for confirming his nomination.
“This appointment is not merely a personal milestone; it is a call to greater service,” he said. “Nigeria faces important fiscal challenges, but also immense opportunities. The decisions we make in public finance today will shape the prosperity, stability, and well-being of our country for generations to come.”
Oyedele pledged to support efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation, promote fiscal discipline, and ensure that public resources translate into real improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
He expressed readiness to work closely with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, colleagues across government, the National Assembly, private sector, and development partners to advance the mission of financing Nigeria for sustainable development.
He further acknowledged that public service demands integrity, humility, and dedication, stressing that he steps into the role with a deep sense of duty and commitment to Nigeria and the Nigerian people.
