‘Renew Commitment to Credible Elections,’ INEC Chairman Urges Staff in Easter Message

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has urged staff of the Commission across the country, including National Commissioners, Resident Electoral Commissioners, Directors and Administrative Secretaries, to renew their commitment to credible elections ahead of upcoming polls.

Prof. Amupitan gave the advice in commemoration of Easter, emphasising that the season highlights victory, sacrifice, and renewal.

“As we join millions across the globe and here at home to celebrate Easter, I extend my warmest greetings to you and your families. Easter is a profound season that speaks to the triumph of hope over despair, the power of sacrifice, and the promise of renewal,” he said.

Amupitan explained that these themes are not merely spiritual, but the very pillars upon which service to the nation rests.

While noting that the story of Easter reflects unwavering commitment to a higher purpose, he disclosed that the staff’s work at INEC, often carried out under demanding conditions and away from the comfort of their homes, is a testament to their sacrifice for Nigeria’s democracy.

“Whether in our local government offices or the headquarters, your labour ensures that the light of democracy continues to burn bright,” he stated.

Reflecting on the first quarter of 2026, the INEC boss expressed satisfaction with the professionalism displayed by staff during the Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections.

“We have shown that when we work together, we do more than just conduct polls; we restore the people’s faith in democratic institutions. As we look toward the forthcoming off-cycle elections and the critical milestones in our 2027 roadmap, let this season of renewal inspire a fresh dedication to our duties.

“Our mandate to protect the sovereign will requires a spirit that does not tire. Let us use this period to recharge our collective resolve to build an electoral ecosystem that is transparent.”

Amupitan stressed that just as Easter promises a new beginning, the Commission is continuously working to ensure that its workplace is one where excellence is rewarded, discipline is upheld, and every staff member is equipped with the tools to succeed in this digital era of election management.

“I urge you to let the lessons of Easter — peace, love, and selfless service — guide your interactions with all stakeholders. By maintaining the highest standards of neutrality and professionalism, you become the true ambassadors of transparency and the rule of law,” he advised.

He added: “I pray that this Easter brings peace to your homes and renewed strength to your hearts. May we continue to work together, in unity and faith, to build an INEC that remains the pride of our nation and a beacon for democracy across the continent. Happy Easter to you all.”
