Manchester City midfielder, Rodri has won the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.
Rodri, 28, claimed the prestigious award ahead of Real Madrid duo; Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham, who were ranked second and third respectively.
He had a stellar campaign last season, winning the Premier League title with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
The midfielder was also instrumental to the La Furia Roja of Spain winning the UEFA Euro 2024 title, and made the Team of the Tournament. He was equally awarded the Best Player of the Tournament.
“Thanks for this. It’s a special day for me and all those close to me. One day, I told my father: stop, I’ll leave football, my dream is over. But he told me… no, keep going, let’s try until the end.
“Today, I’m here and I’m proud, I have to say thanks,” he was quoted as saying by sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano.
Similarly, Barcelona youngster, Lamine Yamal won the Kopa Trophy as the Best Talent of the Year, while the duo of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe were the joint winner of the Gerd Muller Trophy for the Best Goalscorer.
Argentina and Aston Villa shot-stopper, Emiliano Martinez claimed the Yachine Trophy (the Best Goalkeeper), and Carlo Ancelotti was awarded the Best Manager of the Year, while Real Madrid were named the Men’s Club of the Year.
