Senegal Forfeits AFCON 2025 Final as CAF Declares Morocco 3–0 Winners

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco over Senegal in the AFCON 2025 final, following a ruling by its Appeal Board.

The decision means Senegal is deemed to have forfeited the match, and their 1-0 win in the final is officially nullified.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, CAF confirmed that its Appeal Board reached the decision in accordance with Article 84 of the AFCON Regulations.

Ruling on an appeal lodged by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) concerning the application of Articles 82 and 84 of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Regulations, the Appeal Board made the following decisions:

– The appeal lodged by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) is declared admissible and is upheld.

– The earlier decision of the CAF Disciplinary Board is set aside.

– The Appeal Board finds that the conduct of the Senegal national team falls within the scope of Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON Regulations.

– The protest submitted by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) is upheld.

– The Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), through the conduct of its team, is found to have infringed Article 82 of the Regulations.

– In accordance with Article 84, Senegal is declared to have forfeited the match, with the result recorded as a 3–0 victory in favour of Morocco.

– All other motions or requests for relief are dismissed.

The CAF Appeal Board also issued rulings on several related matters:

– The appeal concerning Ismaël Saibari (Morocco No. 11) is partially upheld.

– The Board confirms that Ismaël Saibari committed misconduct in violation of Articles 82 and 83(1) of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

– His sanction is amended to a suspension of two official CAF matches, with one match suspended.

– The fine of USD 100,000 previously imposed on the player is set aside.

Regarding other incidents:

– The appeal relating to the ball boys incident is partially upheld.

– The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) is held responsible for the conduct of the ball boys.

– The fine in this regard is reduced to USD 50,000.

– The appeal concerning interference around the OFR/VAR review area is dismissed.

– The fine of USD 100,000 for this incident is upheld.

– The appeal regarding the laser incident is partially upheld.

– The fine for this offence is reduced to USD 10,000.

– All other motions or requests for relief are dismissed.
