The Rector, Crown Maritime Academy (CMA), Lagos, Dr. Musa Akinyemi has congratulated the Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, Akwa Ibom State, Commodore Duja Effedua (Rtd), on the occasion of the institutions 2023 graduation ceremony.
The event took place on Thursday, December 14, with 157 cadets graduating from the academy.
The CMA Rector, who is also the Acting Secretary-General of the Association of Licensed Maritime Academies of Nigeria (ALMAN) had described Effedua as “selfless, courageous and uncommon” back in August 2021 when he led a delegation of senior management team of the Lagos-based institution a facility tour of the re-invigorated MAN Oron by the Retired Commodore during his first tenure.
According to Akinyemi, “No commendations could be enough to eulogize my brother Rector of MAN Oron for his manifest capabilities that enables his re-birth of Nigeria’s first maritime training institution (MTI) to yet re-occupy and stabilize as the best, not only in Nigeria but across Africa, south of the Sahara”.
Commenting further, he said, “Our man must be a highly-responsible, accountable, dedicated and diligent officer in his hey days in the service”, an observation which was corroborated by the Chairman, Crown Maritime Academy (CMA) Board Of Fellows (BOF), Retired Rear Admiral Godswill OMBO, PhD; OON; FCMAN, a former Director at the Defence Headquarters and former Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command, Naval Headquarters.
Meanwhile, Akinyemi has recommended the establishment of an annual Award with a monetary Prize titled the “Retired Commodore EFFEDUA Prize for Sustainable Maritime Education and Training in Nigeria”.
This, he said should be awarded to the Graduating Most-Outstanding cadet in character and knowledge from MAN Oron.
“ThelensNG” should have come to bridge the divide unknown to be existing between the most-publicized and the least-published of the news-worthy in the land.
If that’s the justification, what a prayer for the growth, development and sustainability of this upstarter that “the sky will never be able to limit your prominence and success!”
