NAFDAC Inaugurates Federal Task Force to Combat Fake Drugs, Unsafe Food Products in Kano

In its sustained efforts to combat the proliferation of counterfeit medicines and unsafe food products, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has inaugurated a Federal Task Force (FTF) in Kano State.
The Kano State branch seven-member the Task Force was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Federal Task Force and Director of Investigation and Enforcement at NAFDAC, Dr. Martins Iluyomade on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Iluyomade expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for its collaboration and support towards strengthening regulatory enforcement in the state.
He underscored the strategic importance of Kano as a major commercial hub, noting that the state serves not only the northern region of Nigeria but also plays a critical role in trade across several countries within the West African sub-region.
The Task Force Chairman emphasised the need for the state government to prioritise the health and safety of its citizens, cautioning against politicising issues that concern public health.
He further reiterated that matters relating to drugs and pharmaceuticals fall under the exclusive legislative list, stressing that only the Federal Government has the constitutional authority to regulate and take action in that regard.
Dr Iluyomade noted that the establishment of the Kano State Task Force is aimed at strengthening enforcement mechanisms, enhancing regulatory presence, and ensuring a more coordinated response to the circulation of counterfeit and substandard products.
He added that the initiative would support efforts to safeguard public health, improve compliance, and protect consumers from harmful and potentially life-threatening substances.
