NDLEA Arrests 101-Year-Old, 65-Year-Old Women for Drug-Related Offences

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, in Ilisan, Ogun State, and a 65-year-old woman, Adebayo Kaosarat, in Ibadan, Oyo State, for alleged drug-related offences.

The NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement made available to ThelensNG on Sunday.

Ogunmabo was arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in retail sachets.

Babafemi said the centenarian told operatives that she sold the substance to locals after her provisions shop was razed by fire.

According to him, Ogunmabo also disclosed that one of her daughters, who resides in Lagos, arranged the supply of the substance to her every four days, which she subsequently sold in small quantities.

Following her arrest, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), directed that the 101-year-old suspect be granted bail and placed on counselling in view of her advanced age. Her daughter, however, has been arrested.

Similarly, a 65-year-old woman, Adebayo Kaosarat, was arrested at Akobo-Ojuirin area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, August 21, with a cocktail of illicit substances weighing 4.68kg.

The substances recovered from her included 1.795kg of Scottish Loud, 1.66kg of tramadol, 600 grammes of codeine syrup, 125 grammes of diazepam and 50 grammes of flunitrazepam.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Ondo State have destroyed 10,000kg of skunk cultivated across four hectares of cannabis farm in Ijare forest, Ifedore Local Government Area.

Babafemi said the operation was conducted on Wednesday, August 19, following the earlier arrest of three suspected cannabis planters at the same location on August 16.

In a separate operation the same day, operatives recovered 210kg of skunk and a Toyota Camry car with registration number AGL 223 JH at Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area. The vehicle belongs to Sylvester Dibiagu Anthony, who is currently at large.
