2025 Anambra Guber Poll: PSC Warns Police Officers against Partisanship

Ahead of the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has warned police officers assigned to election duties to shun all forms of partisanship and uphold professionalism.

The PSC stated this as it announced the deployment of staff monitors to the three senatorial zones of the state to observe police conduct during the election.

This was contained in a statement released by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the National Coordinator and Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu, urged police officers to exhibit a high level of impartiality and discipline, and to ensure the protection of both electoral officers and electoral materials.

DIG Argungu directed that police officers on election duty must create a conducive environment for Anambra residents to vote without any form of hindrance, warning that any officer who compromises the rules of engagement will be sanctioned.

He said that the Anambra election should serve as a test case for the Nigeria Police Force as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The PSC Chairman expressed satisfaction with the preparations so far made by the Anambra State Police Command, noting that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has recently visited all the Area Commands and identified flashpoints across the state to underscore the readiness of the police to ensure a free and fair election.

He emphasised that the Commission will appreciate officers who demonstrate professionalism and commitment during the election while reiterating that those found wanting will be sanctioned.

He further disclosed that the Commission’s staff monitors will operate from the state capital and across the three senatorial districts of Anambra State.
