2027: NDC Candidate Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Exclude Party from Surulere 1 Ballot

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos State, Dr. Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent the party from appearing on the ballot for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

Adebayo made the allegation in a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, October 17, 2026, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party’s national and Lagos State leadership, and Nigerians to take the matter seriously.

She alleged that a similar incident occurred during the last Federal House of Representatives election in Surulere 1, when the Labour Party (LP) did not appear on the ballot paper.

Adebayo disclosed that the incident happened after the LP candidate allegedly colluded with those behind the plan, adding that no consequences followed because the candidate was part of the alleged arrangement.

Warning against a recurrence, she called on INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to ensure that the NDC appears on the ballot paper for the 2027 House of Representatives election in Surulere 1.

Adebayo also urged the NDC’s national and Lagos State leadership to remain vigilant and take the alleged threat seriously, while calling on Nigerians not to treat the matter lightly.

Emphasising her resolve to speak out, she declared that she would neither be bribed nor remain silent over what she described as an attempt to undermine democratic rights.

Adebayo further warned those she accused of planning the alleged move against the NDC not to repeat what she claimed happened during the previous federal election.

She reiterated that the party must be included on the ballot paper in Surulere 1 for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
