The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday organised a refresher course for its personnel to improve marksmanship and weapon handling skills.

The one-day training exposed the corps to drills on firing positions, basic use of firearms, and fundamental principles of marksmanship, among others.

Superintendent of Corps, SC Okadigbo Edwin, the Head, Media and Tactical Operations of the Command made this known in a statement.

In his remarks during the training, the State Commandant, Maku Olatunde stressed the importance of correct and safe weapon handling for all personnel, warning that any slightest safety breach can have devastating consequences, resulting in casualties.

Olatunde mentioned that the training organised by the Command is aimed at achieving the overall goals of the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi to have well-positioned, professional, gallant, and skilled civil defenders.

“The goal of this training is to align with the idea of providing refresher courses to enhance the skills and knowledge of personnel in weapon handling.

“The Command’s effort to provide this training demonstrates its commitment to developing a highly skilled and effective team,” he stated.

The Commandant urged the corps to put the knowledge and skills acquired during the training into practice, emphasising that it would enable them to effectively tackle and mitigate security threats within their respective areas of responsibility.

He explained that the exercise demonstrated the Command’s commitment to building on its past successes in personnel training, with a focus on enhancing their proficiency in firearms handling and marksmanship.
