The publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has regained his freedom from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) custody.
Sowore’s arrest led to protests and sparked criticism from some Nigerians, including notable figures such as Mr. Peter Obi and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday night, the human rights activist confirmed his release from police custody.
He wrote: “Nigeria Police Force and its illegal IGP has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement, I have been released from unjust, unwarranted & unlawful detention.
“However, it is nothing to celebrate, work continues, but I can’t do without thanking you all for not giving up. You’ve all seen the power of unity.”
