ADC Alleges APC Planning Sponsored Protest to Remove David Mark

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning a sponsored protest aimed at removing its National Chairman, Senator David Mark.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, noted that the planned protest is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Abuja and is being sponsored by a minister.
“Yesterday, we disclosed a sinister plot by agents of the ruling APC government to pressure INEC into taking illegal action to destabilise our party, following the milestone movement of H.E. Rabiu Kwankwaso to the ADC. After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same.
“Information reaching us this morning is that a public protest is being planned for tomorrow, Thursday, 2nd April, in Abuja, sponsored by a particularly notorious minister. Their expectation is that a protest will give oxygen to a case that is already suffocating in the courts under the weight of its own illegality,” the statement read.
According to the party, the plan involves a paid crowd posing as aggrieved party members who will take to the streets demanding “David Mark Must Go.”
“This, they hope, will create ‘public pressure’ on the INEC Chairman to magically upgrade and recognise an individual who resigned his position and was subsequently expelled from the ADC, to the position of National Chairman of a party he no longer belongs to,” Abdullahi said.
He also alleged that the ruling APC is plotting to hijack the leadership of the ADC, which he described as the only viable opposition party left in the country.
Abdullahi further claimed that the APC is not only concerned about the ADC’s growing momentum but is equally wary of what could happen if Nigerians begin to pay closer attention and believe that change is possible.
The spokesperson reiterated that the ADC remains focused on its duty to Nigerians and will continue to act within the law.
“We will, however, resist by all lawful and necessary means. If they are not acting on his orders, President Bola Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late,” he added.
