MARCON to Honour Ibeto, Rabiu for Advancing Maritime, Industrial Growth

The Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) has announced Chief Cletus Ibeto, Chairman of Ibeto Group, and Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman/CEO of BUA Group, as recipients of its Lifetime Achievement Awards in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria’s maritime sector and economic development.
The awards, according to a statement issued by the Conference Planning Committee on Friday, are in acknowledgement of the roles both industrialists have played in strengthening the country’s trade ecosystem, boosting industrial capacity and enhancing maritime infrastructure.
Chief Ibeto, Chairman of Ibeto Group, is to be honoured for his interventions in the maritime industry, particularly the establishment of the Ibeto Seaport and Terminal in Rivers State, which is fast emerging as a major hub for trade and logistics.
The statement noted that his investments in local processing of raw materials and industrial supply chains have helped reduce import dependence, create employment opportunities and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness in global markets.
Similarly, Rabiu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BUA Group, is being recognised for his investments in port logistics, manufacturing, cement production and sugar refining.
MARCON stated that Rabiu’s contributions have significantly supported Nigeria’s industrialisation drive and the advancement of the nation’s Blue Economy agenda.
Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Paul Ogbuokiri, said the selection of the awardees followed a rigorous process that assessed their long-standing impact on maritime development and the wider economy.
“Chief Ibeto and Alhaji Rabiu represent the very best of indigenous enterprise. Their investments have not only transformed key sectors but have also strengthened Nigeria’s position in global trade and logistics. Their commitment to infrastructure development, job creation, and industrial growth makes them worthy recipients of this honour”, Ogbuokiri said.
Also speaking, MARCON President, Ismail Aniemu, described the awards as a recognition of excellence and resilience in private sector leadership.
“These honours reflect MARCON’s commitment to celebrating individuals whose contributions continue to shape the future of Nigeria’s maritime industry and economic landscape. Both awardees have demonstrated visionary leadership and an unwavering commitment to national growth through strategic investments”, he said.
The awards are scheduled to be presented at the 2026 MARCON Annual Conference and Special Economic Zones Mid-Year Conference, slated for June 10, 2026, at Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
