Obi Condemns Abduction of Kogi School Principal, NECO Official, Students

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has condemned the abduction of a school principal, a NECO official, and four students who were writing the ongoing National Examinations Council examination at Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

ThelensNG reports that the abduction occurred while the students were writing the examination on Tuesday.

Reacting to the development, Obi described the incident as both heartbreaking and deeply troubling.

“That innocent children can no longer go to school, study, or sit for a national examination without the fear of criminal violence is a stark reminder of how far insecurity has eroded the sanctity of our educational institutions and the safety of our citizens,” he lamented.

Obi noted that the incident occurred at a time when education is Nigeria’s most important asset for development and growth.

He argued that Nigerian schools must never become theatres of fear, stressing that they should symbolise hope and the promise of a better future, not terror and uncertainty.

Obi called on the relevant security agencies to act with urgency, deploy every available resource, and ensure the safe and unconditional rescue of all those abducted.

He also urged governments at all levels to take deliberate steps to strengthen security around schools and restore public confidence in the nation’s education system.

Obi sympathised with the affected families, the school community, and the people of Kogi State, emphasising that Nigeria cannot continue to normalise these recurring tragedies.

He added that a nation that cannot guarantee the safety of its children is mortgaging its future.
