The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, has confirmed a fire incident at its premises in Apapa, Lagos, with no loss of life or injury recorded.
The incident occurred at about 10:35 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, when a fire outbreak was detected within some offices of the Command.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, said officers on duty immediately activated emergency response protocols and made efforts to contain the fire.
Personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.
According to the statement, preliminary assessment showed that the fire affected some property and office equipment within the Command premises, while thick smoke was initially noticed emanating from the newly constructed conference hall.
The Command, however, said no life was lost and no injury was recorded in the incident.
It appreciated the prompt response of its officers and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in containing the fire.
The Command also assured members of the public and stakeholders that its core operations remain unaffected and continue as normal.
It said a committee has been constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire and make appropriate recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
The Command further said it would continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its personnel and infrastructure, while reaffirming its commitment to safety, security and operational efficiency across its formations.
