Tuchel, Bayern Agree to Part Ways in June

Thomas Tuchel and the management of Bayern Munich have agreed to part ways at the end of the season.

The agreement between both parties was revealed on Wednesday following the team’s 3-2 loss to Bochum in the German Bundesliga over the weekend.

“We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after the end of this season. Until then, my coaching staff and I will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success for FC Bayern,” Tuchel was quoted as saying by sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano.

Similarly, Bayern Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jan-Christian Dreesen, who was also quoted by Romano confirmed the end of Tuchel’s reign in June saying: “Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024/25 season.

“Until then, every individual at the club is expressly challenged to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and Bundesliga.”

Tuchel joined the Bavarians in the mid-season of the 2022/2023 season following the sack of Julian Nagelsmann – and led the side to their 11th successive Bundesliga title.

Bayern are currently second on 50 points in the Bundesliga standings, 8 points behind Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen who leads with 58 points after 22 games.

The former Chelsea manager has also fallen short in the UEFA Champions League having lost to Lazio in a 1-0 result at Stadio Olimpico earlier in February 14.

He will be looking to turn things around in the second league on Tuesday, March 5 when they host Maurizio Sarri’s men in the second leg of the most prestigious club competition.

They had earlier been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the second round in November 2023 after losing to third division side Saarbrucken.
