The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Technical and Vocational Education, Giwa Moore says Lagos youth population must focus on Technical education and Skills development to thrive effectively in the 21st century in other to be an employer of labour.
Moore made this known during The Mentors Platform programme hosted by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. Sesan Olowa in Lagos on Wednesday, May 9, 2024.
In his address, Giwa commended his Governor Sanwo-Olu for his inclusion of the youth in governance, and positioning them for capacity building and his key interest in Technical and Vocational Education under the sterling coordination of Moronke Azeez, the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board.
According to Moore, Ms. Azeez has contributed vehemently to development of Technical and Vocational education in Lagos State, adding that she is still putting more efforts to make it better in order to compete with the global needs.
He disclosed that Governor Sanwo-Olu is committed to giving the important sector the attention it really deserves, one of which is his appointment as the SSA on Technical and Vocational Education Board.
He explained that LASTVEB is creating an ecosystem that would foster innovation, create jobs for the youth, and ensure the future competitiveness of the state economy.
He pointed out the pivotal role of education and skill acquisition in this process, urging Lagos youths to dedicate themselves to hard work in order to realise a prosperous future.
According to Giwa, the digital revolution is beginning to transform industries, creating new job categories that demanded a new set of skills.
He noted further that the future of work in Lagos was already unfolding, emphasising the need to embrace Technical and Vocational education to reduce the population of unemployed youths in the state.
“Lagos, with its youthful population and dynamic energy, stands at the forefront of shaping the future of work not only in Nigeria but on a global scale. As we navigate this transformation, our focus must be on technical education and skill development, ensuring that our workforce is equipped to thrive in the 21st century”, he added.
More also commended the convener, Hon Sesan Olowa the Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki LGA and his team for coming up with the noble idea which is targeted at mentoring the youth.
