Enugu Governor, Mbah Inaugurates Committee to Implement New Minimum Wage

The Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah has set up a committee to implement the new minimum wage of ₦70,000 in the state.

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in July approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers and pledged to review it every three years.

“President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers with promise to review the national minimum wage law every three years.

“President Tinubu also promised to find ways to assist the private sector and the sub-nationals to pay the minimum wage.

“President Tinubu announced the decisions at the meeting held with leaders of TUC and NLC on Thursday in Abuja, the second time the parties met in 7 days,” a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga read in part confirming the increment.

In line with the development, Mr. Mbah on Thursday said that the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage for civil and public servants is part of his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the state’s dedicated workforce.

He noted that the initiative is not just a promise kept but a step towards ensuring that the state’s workers are motivated and adequately compensated.

“The committee, which includes key stakeholders from both the government and labour unions, has been given a one-month timeframe to deliver a comprehensive report for quick implementation,” he stated.

Governor Mbah urged the committee to consult widely and produce a plan that reflects Enugu’s collective vision for a productive and satisfied public service.

He added: “Our goal is to ensure we have an environment where workers feel valued and are driven to achieve the lofty goals we have set for our state.

“I am confident that the committee will not only meet but exceed our expectations, delivering results that will set a new standard for labour relations in Enugu State.”
