The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Monday disclosed that it shut the DEE-LITE IMPEX Distribution Co. Ltd warehouse in Sokoto State after uncovering 5,347 bags of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), and other unregistered food products.
NAFDAC noted that the facility, located on Coca-Cola Road, off Western Bypass, Sokoto, was found to be selling raw MSG, imported under a permit for processing, directly as a finished product.
“Additionally, the quantity of MSG found exceeded the approved amount which violates NAFDAC regulations. Unregistered items such as Orange Fruity (193 cartons) and Toffeeman Coconut Bites (71 cartons) were also seized,” the agency stated.
The regulatory body said that further inspection at Sokoto Old Market revealed 235 bags of FUFENG Monosodium Glutamate stored in various shops, which were immediately placed on hold.
It added: “The company’s representative has been arrested and is under interrogation as the Agency pursues regulatory sanctions.”
