The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has gained a significant boost from the judiciary in its fight against vandalism of national assets and infrastructure across all levels of government.
The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Hon. Justice Onochie M. Anyachebelu gave the assurance when he hosted Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Maku Olatunde in his office at the High Court Complex in Awka on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Head, Media and Tactical Ops of Anambra NSCDC Command, SC Okadigbo Edwin.
In his remarks, Justice Anyachebelu expressed gratitude to the Command for its crucial role and contributions to the state’s security architecture through effective collaboration with other sister security agencies.
This, he said, makes the state relatively safe and peaceful for lawful citizens and residents.
The Chief Judge emphasised that NSCDC personnel must demonstrate dedication and professionalism in protecting the country’s critical assets.
He also assured the Corps of the judiciary’s ongoing support in combatting crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
On his part, Commandant Olatunde stated that his visit to the Chief Judge was to seek cooperation and support from the Judiciary in achieving the NSCDC core mandates, ultimately aiming to create a peaceful state free from crimes and criminalities.
He highlighted some activities of the Corps, including protection of lives and properties, especially critical government assets and infrastructure at the national, state and local levels, such as petroleum pipelines and power installations.
Others are telecommunication facilities, crisis/disaster management resolution, protection of schools through safe school project, regulation of private security companies activities, prevention of farmers/herders clashes to mention a few amongst NSCDC mandates, which remains pertinent in security parlance.
The Commandant reaffirmed the command’s firm resolve to uphold the rule of law and discharge its responsibilities with utmost professionalism, devoid of sentiment or bias.
