AIG Garba made this known during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) to his office in Lagos.
Garba emphasised the importance of collaboration between the police and maritime journalists in maintaining peace and order in the maritime environment.
He expressed willingness to work with AMJON, the Nigeria Customs Service, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate information dissemination about police activities to the public.
This partnership, he noted, would help portray Nigeria in a positive light, attracting goodwill, tourism, and foreign investment.
The AIG warned criminals to desist from nefarious activities, stating that the command would not condone criminality.
He assured that the command has personnel stationed in strategic locations to monitor and apprehend anyone engaging in criminal offenses, who would subsequently face prompt prosecution.
Garba urged individuals harboring criminal intentions to avoid port environments, cautioning that those who fail to comply would face the consequences.
Kelvin Kagbare, President of AMJON, praised AIG Garba’s leadership initiatives, which have led to a reduction in crime within the sector.
Kagbare pledged AMJON’s support in disseminating information about the command’s activities, further solidifying the partnership between the police and maritime journalists.
As a seasoned law enforcement officer, AIG Garba brings a wealth of experience to his role. He has held various high-ranking positions in the police force, serving in different commands across the country.
His academic credentials include master’s degrees in Criminology and Forensic Psychology, as well as Philosophy.
Additionally, he has attended numerous professional courses in security management, both locally and internationally.
The Maritime Police Command, under AIG Garba’s leadership, has demonstrated its commitment to enhancing security within Nigeria’s ports and maritime industry.
The command’s strategic engagements with key stakeholders, including the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and shipping terminal managers, aim to bolster security measures and improve operational efficiency.
