‘Campus Reporter’ Advises Students’ Journalists Faced with Administrative Pressure to Speak Up

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) initiative ‘Campus Reporter’ on Friday encouraged students’ journalists affected by the regulations of school authorities to voice out their displeasure.

Campus Reporter, a journalism program built on evidence-based ethical reporting and youth engagement initiatives in campuses around Africa emphasised the significance of students’ journalists in the school environment.

“We believe in the vital role that campus journalism plays in fostering an informed and engaged student body and its role in holding stakeholders accountable.

“However, it has come to our attention that some campus journalists may be facing undue limitations imposed by their school management through constitutions and regulations.

“These restrictions could hinder your ability to practice journalism freely and ethically. If you are experiencing any constraints due to your school’s constitutions, regulations, or any form of administrative pressure that limits your journalistic activities, we urge you to come forward and speak up,” it stated on X, formerly Twitter.

Campus Reporter noted that the experiences and insights of campus journalists are crucial in its efforts to ensure that campus journalism remains a pillar of free expression and democratic values.

It also encouraged them to share their concerns and experiences through the form provided below.
