COWA President Inaugurates Secretariat in Kebbi, Donates Relief Materials to Orphans, Widows

The National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, alongside the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, has inaugurated and commissioned the newly established COWA Secretariat in Kebbi State.

The historic event, held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Nigeria Customs Service Kebbi Area Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, marks a significant milestone in COWA’s activities within the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi Area Command of the NCS, Superintendent of Customs Mohammed Salisu Tajuddeen.

“Following the commissioning ceremony, Mrs. Adeniyi and Hajiya Nafisa distributed relief materials, including food items and writing materials, to dozens of orphans and widows of fallen Customs officers. The gesture underscores COWA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the Customs family and the broader community,” the statement noted.

In her address, the COWA National President expressed profound gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his unwavering support in advancing the Association’s mission and vision.

She also acknowledged the efforts of the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller CC Nwokorie, for making the event a success and giving it a colourful atmosphere.

Speaking at the occasion, the wife of the Kebbi State Governor welcomed Mrs. Adeniyi to the state and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting orphans and widows, in alignment with the current administration’s social welfare agenda.

Mrs. Idris wished the visiting delegation a safe return to their destination.

In his opening remarks, Comptroller Nwokorie highlighted the significance of the event, noting that since the creation of the Kebbi Area Command in 2019 — following its separation from the Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Command, there had been no previous COWA activities in the state.

He attributed the success of the initiative to the support and leadership of CGC Adeniyi.
