
The Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has won the Leadership Group Public Service Person of the Year 2024 for the operational efficiency displayed in leading the affairs of the Service.
Comptroller Adeniyi clinched the honour at the awards ceremony in Abuja.
According to the media organisation, the Customs boss was selected following a process that assessed over 10 top-performing government officials.
It stated that the Comptroller was deemed fit for the award for his “transformative leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), ushering in a new era of transparency, operational efficiency, and improved revenue generation that has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic stability.”
Adeniyi, who was accompanied by his wife, Kikelomo Adeniyi, and senior NCS’ officers, expressed gratitude for the award and pledged to enhance trade facilitation, revenue generation, and eradicate smuggling.
He lauded the Service’s personnel, emphasising that the recognition would further motivate reforms and innovation within the NCS.
“This award is not just about me; it reflects the collective commitment to transparency, efficiency, and national development,” he said.
Adeniyi reiterated his commitment to modernisation, trade facilitation, and revenue enhancement while highlighting leadership with integrity and accountability.
He further stressed the importance of border management for national security.
Comptroller Adeniyi was recognised alongside Aliko Dangote, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa-Ibom, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano, Senators, and private sector representatives.
