Daily Times Nigeria has honoured MTN Nigeria as the Digital Company of the Decade at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja.
The recognition was presented as part of the newspaper’s centenary celebrations and acknowledged MTN Nigeria’s contribution to the growth of digital connectivity and its role in shaping how Nigerians communicate, work, transact and access services.
Receiving the award, Chief Corporate Services & Sustainability Officer, MTN Nigeria, Tobe Okigbo, expressed appreciation to the organisers and stakeholders whose support contributed to the recognition.
“We are honoured to receive the Digital Company of the Decade Award, and grateful to all the stakeholders whose votes and confidence made this possible,” Okigbo said.
He described the award as timely, noting that it coincides with MTN Nigeria’s 25 years of contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
“The award is timely as it coincides with the commemoration of our 25 years of contributing to our nation’s socio-economic development. We consider it a privilege for MTN Nigeria to be featured among institutions shaping Nigeria’s development journey and remain committed to building our digital economy underpinned by innovation and the transformative power of technology,” he stated.
The award comes as digital technology has become increasingly central to Nigeria’s economic and social life, with MTN Nigeria expanding beyond traditional telecommunications into connectivity and digital solutions.
The company’s expansion has helped bring more Nigerians, businesses, and institutions into an increasingly connected economy, with mobile connectivity serving as a gateway to financial services, education, entertainment, commerce, and enterprise.
The recognition also reflects the broader transformation in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry and the country’s digital economy, where telecommunications infrastructure and services have become increasingly important to productivity, inclusion, and access to opportunity.
As Daily Times marks 100 years of documenting Nigeria’s development, MTN Nigeria’s recognition places its digital journey within the wider record of institutions that have contributed to the country’s development.
The company’s inclusion among the DTN@100 honourees and subsequent documentation in the Nigerian Grand Book further captures its contribution to Nigeria’s digital transition over the past decade.
