The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 750 personnel across the state to beef up security for the celebration of Democracy Day on Thursday, June 12.

The NSCDC explained that the deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful celebration and preventing the vandalism of critical national, state and local government assets in Anambra.

Superintendent of Corps, SC Okadigbo Edwin, the Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the Command, disclosed this in a statement made available to Thelensng on Wednesday, following an announcement by the State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, at the Command Headquarters in Awka.

According to the statement, Commandant Olatunde said that the deployment, which covers all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, includes specialised units such as Tactical Squads, Anti-Vandalism Squad, Female Special Forces, and Counter Terrorism Squad.

He noted that the different units are strategically positioned in government buildings, public utilities, transportation hubs, telecommunication facilities, electricity infrastructures, high-risk areas, areas prone to violence, black spots and other vulnerable points.

“The Command is committed to providing a secure environment for Anambra residents to celebrate without fear of any security threats.

“We are fully prepared to neutralize any potential security breach and ensure the state maintains its relative peace,” he said.

The Anambra NSCDC boss urged the residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to its nearest formation or other sister security agencies.

He congratulated Nigerians and wished them a joyous Democracy Day celebration, while reaffirming the NSCDC’s dedication to maintaining peace and security in collaboration with other sister security agencies across the state.
